Presidents Message
Well here it is, the end of the year already. I cant hardly believe it. The year that was supposed to be such a disaster for the entire world, ended up to be only a disaster for some individuals and an inconvience for others. As for me it was somewhere in between. The infamous Y2K came and went just as I predicted without much of an incident, then things ran along fairly smooth until school started, the day that happened I ended up in the hospital having my appendix removed. Then came the secondary infection and the resulting month in bed. One good thing about it was the time that I laid there all I was able to do was read, so out came the study manual for the Extra class exam. Had it not been for that amount of time all at once I would probably still be studying. The effects of that much of an extended vacation will last for a while longer however.
Also marking the end of this year is the conclusion of my term as president of the club. This has been a good experience and a growing time for not only me but my family as well. We have all become more involved in the club and with the members of it. Luckily for us that relationship will only continue. There are a lot of terrific people in the group and I am proud to be associated with you.
As this year comes to close I would like to thank all of you for your help, encouragement, support, activity, and most of all your friendship. Thanks also to all who have helped with the projects we have done there was a lot of time spent on repeaters, meetings, field day, testing sessions, and a number of other things.
Thank you all for all you do, remember YOUre the club and without YOU there is no club. My best wishes go out to each and everyone.

Election Time Again
Well here comes another election, by the time you get this newsletter you should have received your ballots for this years election of club officers. I can guarantee that these will only be counted once and a winner declared I hope by then we will have an end to the mockery that has come from the last presidential circus. Since these are all absentee ballots please have them returned by Dec 30 so we can have our new officers take over Jan 1st
You have heard so many times that your vote really does matter but in this case it is really true, you need to voice your opinion on this matter so please do so.
As a matter of information the following people have been nominated for club officers.
Keith Caldwell for president; Lee Turner for Vice President; Kay Johnson for Secretary; Jay Hansen for Treasurer; and the following people for Board of directors, Mike Dunker, Clifton Southam, and Chandler Fisher.
Please remember that you can also vote for anyone as a write in vote, if you think someone else would fill one of these positions better by all means use that space and write somebody in.
DUES Due again
The beginning of a new year also means that dues are again due. This is the only way that the club functions, we do not have any financial support from outside the organization.
We have been very fortunate as of late the repairs we have had to make have been made by people volunteering their time and equipment and we really dodged a bullet by being able to use the antenna that was already on the tower on Blue Mtn. but we will be needing to do something different someday and it will cost us some money when it happens. The antenna that we are now using is a very expensive system and I think anyone who has used Blue lately will agree that when the time comes to replace it we will not want anything less. So please send in your dues as soon as possible.
Christmas Party
This years club Christmas party will be held December 16,2000 at 6:00 pm at the Zions Bank Bldg. in Roosevelt. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Including the members from over the hill from the SDARC group not that they are over the hill that just happens to be where they live.
It will be enjoyable for all so please plan to attend the Club will furnish meat and other food assignments will be made. If you do not receive an assignment please bring a potluck dish.
Please bring a small gift to exchange for each person that comes to the party.

SDARC System Explained
During our last Meeting Brett Mills came over and explained about the SDARC repeater system and the functions that it has.
We would like to thank Brett and the Sinbad Desert amateur radio club for their courtesy in making this system available to our members. Here is one more good reason for paying your dues as this system is only available to paid dues members.
Just a reminder that if you want to have access to the phone patch that is available on the system they have requested a five dollar donation per year to help cover the cost involved. This can be sent to Jay and will then be forwarded to them by him.
Input Request
Solicitations, requests, input, criticism, complaints or anything else to add to the newsletter is hereby officially requested. Please feel compelled or at least free to contribute anything that would be of any interest to some or all of our members. If this sounds a little bit on the desperate side I have gotten my point across. Thanks in advance for all who will feel guilty enough to scrape up something.

ARRL Reconsiders Code
The following article comes from the ARRL Newsletter.
The ARRL Board of Directors will review the League's position on the Morse Code as an international licensing requirement when it gathers for its annual meeting in January. Because the issue is expected to come up at the IARU Region 2 Conference next October, the ARRL Executive Committee decided at its November 11 meeting in Irving, Texas, to place the issue on the Board's January agenda.
The ARRL's Morse policy was formalized by Board resolution in 1993. It supports the retention in the International Radio Regulations of the provision obliging administrations to require that applicants demonstrate ability to send and receive Morse code before they may operate below 30 MHz.
Consistent with that policy, ARRL International Affairs Vice President Rod Stafford, W6ROD, cast the lone dissenting vote earlier this year at the IARU Region 3 Conference in Australia on a motion calling for the eventual elimination of Morse as an ITU requirement for HF operation.
In January, the Board may decide to reaffirm this policy, to modify it, or to seek additional input from members. In the past, a majority of members has supported the policy. The Executive Committee also proposed that the Board determine a process for soliciting membership input on possible repartitioning of the HF bands in restructuring's wake. As part of its original restructuring package, the League had proposed "refarming" the current Novice bands to allow for more efficient use of the most crowded HF allocations. The FCC has declined to take up any possible repartitioning, however, until it's had a chance to gauge the effects of restructuring. Amateur Radio license restructuring became effective last April 15.
Tesla Program
* PBS will air the documentary Tesla: Master of Lightning Tuesday, December 12 (check local listings for time and channel) about the life and accomplishments of inventor Nikola Tesla
(1853-1943). Actor Stacy Keach will provide the voice of Tesla for the
90-minute presentation. A Web site, http://www.pbs.org/tesla/index.html, will serve as the on-line companion to the acclaimed documentary. A contemporary of Thomas Edison and Guglielmo Marconi, Tesla--a Serbian
immigrant to the US--is credited with being the inventor of our system of ac power transmission and even of radio. The book, Tesla: Master of Lightning, by Margaret Cheney and Robert Uth, is reviewed in December QST, page 37.--PBS
