Presidents Message

Hey everybody. I can hardly believe it is time already for another message and as I think about what to say I am really stumped this time. I think everyone is doing a great job, there seems to be more activity on the air than there has been for a while, and with the exception of Blue Mtns sensitivity being less than it used to be, all of the repeaters in the area are working great. Don't get me wrong I am in no way taking credit for these things but I think they are worth mentioning and want to thank everyone that had something to do with the progress of this year.

This next meeting will be a real good one with lots of good food and friendship to go around. I am looking forward to seeing all of you there. Good luck to all and Happy DX ing

VonBARC Meets SDARC

Aug. 3. Clifton (KD7HIX) and Jackie, Lee (KK7SI) and Mary Lou, Mike (KD7GHF), Chandler (W7BYU) and Jay KA7BPB) invaded bear country at the top of Indian Canyon.

It was the monthly meeting of the Sinbad Desert Amateur Radio Club and was being held at the summer cabin of members of that club. Location: Absolutely beautiful. Signs on all the access roads warning that this was bear country.

Bird feeder mounted on a rope and pulley so it could be pulled out away from the trees. Protection from squirrels? No way. Bears were unable to get to it. Bambi came to investigate

what all the noise was about. Mike said they did everything to encourage the wildlife, except bears.

They needed no encouragement. Dinner consisted of bring your own meat and a potluck dish. No one

left hungry. When the meeting was adjourned there was an indication that maybe four, or more, of their members would head our way for our meeting at Remember The Maine on August 19. We need to know each other better.

70 cm. Ban Due To Olympics

Radio amateurs in Australia were officially notified that they may not operate their 70-cm ham radio equipment between 440 and 450 MHz within 100 miles of the Sydney Olympic Park between July 12, 2000 until October 30, 2000. The restriction lasts until December 31,2000 in the

421 to 432 MHz frequency band.

The rumors are that a similar 70-cm ham band restriction will be made during the Salt Lake City, Utah Winter Olympics to be held February 8, 2002 to February 24, 2002. The 2002 Winter Olympics Games have been designated a National Special Security Event. (W5YI Report)

Tid Bits

*If a parsley farmer is sued can they garnish his wages?

*Why is the word abbreviation so long?

*If a book about failures doesn't sell is it a success?

*If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it a hostage situation?

*Why do they report power outages on TV?

*Instead of talking to your plants, if you yell at them, would they still grow? Only to be troubled and insecure?

*If the cops arrest a mime, do they tell him he has the right to remain silent?

Three Legged Chicken

A man was driving along a rural road one day when he saw a three legged chicken. He was amused enough to drive along side it for a while, as he was driving he noticed the chicken was running 30 mph. Pretty fast chicken, he thought, I wonder just how fast it can run. So he sped up and the chicken did too! They were now moving along the road at 45 mph! The man in the car sped up again, to his surprise the chicken was still running ahead of him at 60 mph!!!

Suddenly the chicken turned off the road and ran down a long driveway leading to a farmhouse. The man followed the chicken to the house and saw a man in the yard and dozens of three legged chickens. The man in the car called out to the farmer "How did you get all these three legged chickens" The farmer replied, "I breed 'em. Ya see it's me, my wife and my son living here and we all like to eat the chicken leg. Since a chicken only has two legs, I started breeding this three legged variety so we could all eat our favorite piece." "That's amazing!" said the driver "How do they taste?"

"Don't rightly know, can't catch 'em."

Next Meeting

The next club meeting will be held on Aug.19th at the Remember the Maine Park. It will also be a potluck dinner and the meat will be provided. We would like to see you there. And Kay would like to get somewhat of a head count so she could see how much chicken to bring. So if you plan on going please get a hold of her. Her call sign is KC7MGD or call Lisa KC7JZW and her phone number is 722-2748.
